"She wasn't stealing," Julian said, his voice dripping with authority. "She was saving my father's life. And as for 'your' diner... I bought the deed to this building and the business partnership thirty minutes ago."

Henderson’s face drained of color. He looked from Julian to the security guards, his mouth opening and closing like a fish.

"This diner is now under new management," Julian continued, gesturing to Chloe. "And your services are no longer required. Hand over your keys, Mr. Henderson. You are fired."

Stunned, Henderson fumbled with his keychain, dropped the keys onto the cold concrete, and scurried away in disgrace. But as Chloe looked down at the contract in her hands, she realized that Julian’s revelation about his father went far deeper than just a local diner promotion.
