Previously: When my stepmother slammed down a forged custody waiver, I handed my father a sealed envelope. The DNA inside didn't just prove I was his son—it exposed her darkest secret. And her downfall was only the beginning.

The Cylinder's Secret

The ticking grew louder, more insistent. My father grabbed me and pulled me toward the frosted glass partition, but the doors were sealed tight. "She's locked the whole suite," he muttered, his eyes scanning the room. "But there's a maintenance hatch in the back."

He pushed aside a panel near the floor, revealing a dark passage. "Go," he said, pushing me through. "Don't look back."

I crawled through the narrow tunnel, my heart pounding in my ears. Behind me, I heard my father's heavy footsteps. The ticking was still there, following us, growing louder with every second.

We emerged into a dimly lit corridor. The ticking was coming from the cylinder—but now it was in my father's hands. He'd grabbed it before we escaped.

"We need to get it to the lab," he said, his voice urgent. "But the whole building is on lockdown."

Suddenly, a voice echoed through the intercom. Victoria's voice, sharp and triumphant. "Did you really think a little letter would stop me?" she said. "I have eyes everywhere, Sebastian. And that cylinder? It's not a bomb. It's worse. It's the proof that your father's will was forged—by your own mother."

My father froze. "What?"

"Oh, yes," Victoria purred. "She was the one who forged the original will, not me. I have the records. And if you open that cylinder, you'll see the truth. Your mother was a liar. And your son—" she paused, her voice dripping with malice, "—is not the heir you think he is."

My father's hands shook. He looked at the cylinder, then at me. "Lucas," he said, his voice cracking, "I don't know what to believe anymore."

But I did. I pulled out the letter my mother had written and read the final lines aloud: "Whatever Victoria says, remember this: I loved you, and I loved Lucas. I would never betray you. The cylinder contains a recording—my final message to you. Play it, and you'll know the truth."

My father's eyes widened. He broke the seal on the cylinder and pulled out a small audio device. He pressed play, and my mother's voice filled the corridor.

"Sebastian, if you're hearing this, it means Victoria has made her move. I knew she would. She's been working with the Marlowes from the beginning. But I have a confession: I didn't die in a car accident. She tried to have me killed. I escaped, but I've been living in hiding to protect Lucas. The will I forged? It wasn't to steal anything—it was to protect our son from her. The real will, the one she's been searching for, is hidden in the vault at the old estate. It names Lucas as the sole heir. But you have to get there before she does."

The recording ended. My father stared at the device, tears streaming down his face. "She's alive," he whispered. "Elena is alive."

I grabbed his hand. "We have to find her," I said. "Before Victoria does."

We sprinted down the corridor, the alarm blaring overhead. But as we burst through the emergency exit, we came face to face with Victoria—and she wasn't alone. Behind her stood a man in a dark suit, holding a gun.

"End of the line," Victoria said, smiling. "There's only one heir to Thorne Industries, and it's not either of you."

My father stepped in front of me, shielding me with his body. "You'll have to kill us first," he said.

Victoria laughed. "That's the plan."

But before she could give the order, a voice rang out from the shadows. "Drop the gun, Victoria. It's over."

And out of the darkness stepped a woman with my mother's face—alive, fierce, and holding a badge.

"Elena," my father breathed.

She looked at him, then at me, and smiled. "I told you I'd always protect him."

The officers swarmed around us, taking Victoria and her accomplice into custody. My mother walked toward me, her arms open wide. I ran into them, sobbing.

"I'm here, sweetheart," she whispered. "I'm here."

In the end, the real will was found in the old estate vault. Lucas was named the sole heir, and the Thorne legacy was restored. Victoria's schemes collapsed, and she was sentenced to prison for attempted murder and fraud.

As I stood with my parents, watching the sunrise over the Thorne estate, I knew one thing for sure: blood may define a family, but trust and truth are what make it unbreakable.

And sometimes, the greatest betrayals come from those closest to you—but the greatest love can heal even the deepest wounds.
