She Got on a Stranger’s Motorcycle to Escape, but His True Identity Changed Everything
Previously: Terrified and running from her past, eighteen-year-old Chloe boards a motorcycle with a gruff stranger named Marcus. But she never expected the secret he was harboring about her late mother.
The Shadow of the Past
The roar of the motorcycle engine was deafening, but to Chloe, it felt like a shield against the world she was leaving behind. She held onto Marcus’s waist as they sped through the winding, snow-covered roads, leaving the city limits behind. The biting cold stung her cheeks, but the adrenaline running through her veins kept her warm. She didn't know where they were going, or why this intimidating group of bikers had agreed to help her. All she knew was that she had to escape.
Eventually, the fleet pulled into the gravel parking lot of an old, secluded diner on the outskirts of the county. The neon sign buzzed weakly in the daylight. Marcus parked his bike and helped Chloe dismount. Before she could ask the dozen questions burning in her mind, the peace was shattered. The sharp screech of tires echoed across the lot as a sleek black SUV tore into the gravel, blocking the exit.
Chloe’s stomach dropped. From the driver’s seat stepped Richard, her tyrannical stepfather. His face was contorted with rage as he slammed the car door.
Get in the car, Chloe!he bellowed, marching toward her.
You think you can just run away? You’re eighteen, but I am still your legal guardian until the estate is settled. You are signing those inheritance papers today, or I will make sure you regret it.
Terrified, Chloe took a step back, but she didn't get far. Marcus stepped directly into Richard’s path, his imposing frame completely shielding her. Instantly, the other riders dismounted, forming a silent, unbroken wall of leather and steel around Chloe. The air grew thick with tension as Marcus looked down at the angry man.
She's not going anywhere with you,Marcus said, his voice dangerously quiet.
