Previously: Eleanor Vance faked paralysis to expose her gold-digging husband Craig. When he dared to strike her grandson, she rose from the wheelchair—and revealed the ultimate trap.

The Mastermind Behind the Wheelchair Was My Own Blood—And He Was Closer Than I Ever Imagined

Richard had always been jealous of Eleanor. As the younger brother, he had watched her inherit the family business while he was pushed aside. He had never forgiven her for it. And now, Eleanor realized, he had spent years plotting to take everything from her.

But Richard was not just a schemer. He was a man with a grudge so deep that it had turned to poison. He had helped Craig, not out of loyalty, but out of a shared hatred for Eleanor.

Eleanor confronted Richard in his penthouse apartment. He didn't deny it. He laughed, a cold, hollow sound that made her skin crawl.

"You thought you were so clever," he said, his eyes gleaming. "Playing paralyzed. But you never saw what was right in front of you."

He told her everything. How he had met Craig years ago and planted him in her life. How they had planned to bleed her dry, piece by piece. But the cottage—the deed—had been a mistake. Craig had gotten greedy and tried to cut Richard out of the deal.

And so Richard had tipped off the police, knowing Craig would be caught. He had sacrificed Craig to save himself.

Eleanor felt a cold fury settle over her. She had trusted Richard. She had loved him, once. But now she saw him for what he was: a viper in her own nest.

She didn't call the police. Not yet. Instead, she made a call to Frank and told him to bring the evidence of Richard's involvement to her office. Then she walked out of his apartment without another word.

Richard was arrested the next day. The look on his face as the handcuffs clicked around his wrists was one of pure disbelief. He had thought he was untouchable.

Eleanor watched the news coverage from her office, Toby perched on her lap. The diamond deposit had made headlines, but that didn't matter to her. What mattered was that Toby was safe. And that the truth had finally come out.

In the months that followed, Eleanor sold the cottage and put the money into a trust fund for Toby. She also filed a lawsuit against Richard, reclaiming the shares of Vance Industries he had stolen over the years. The company grew stronger than ever.

But the real victory was simpler. Eleanor no longer had to pretend. She walked with her head held high, her heels clicking on the marble floors of Vance Tower. She greeted every employee by name, visited every showroom, and spent every Sunday baking cookies with Toby.

One evening, as the sun set over Manhattan, Toby looked up at her with his big, trusting eyes. "Grandma," he said, "were you ever really paralyzed?"

Eleanor smiled and pulled him close. "No, sweetheart," she said. "But I was waiting for the right moment to stand up."

Toby giggled, and Eleanor felt a warmth spread through her chest. She had spent years playing a role, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. But in the end, the best part of her story wasn't the revenge. It was the boy who had stood by her side, even when he thought she was helpless.

And as she looked out at the glittering skyline, Eleanor knew that some things were worth more than diamonds.

She had won. But more importantly, she had taught Toby what it meant to be brave.

And that was the greatest fortune of all.
