She Publicly Accused a Man of Stealing a Car, Realizing Too Late Who He Was
Previously: When Evelyn spotted Carter holding the keys to a luxury Rolls Royce at an upscale party, she called security. She had no idea who he actually was.
The Tables Turn
Two burly security guards in dark suits quickly flanked Carter, their expressions tense. "Is there a problem here, ma'am?" the lead guard asked, his eyes darting between Evelyn's furious face and Carter's relaxed demeanor. Evelyn smirked, crossing her arms tightly.
"Yes, there is a massive problem. This man is a fraud. He doesn't belong at this party, and he is currently attempting to steal this Rolls Royce. Get him out of here and call the police!"she demanded, her voice dripping with venom.
Carter remained perfectly still, his hands resting casually in his pockets. He didn't offer an explanation, nor did he look panicked. Instead, his eyes drifted past Evelyn toward the grand entrance of the mansion. Following his gaze, the crowd parted as Richard, the billionaire host of the party and Evelyn's husband's primary business partner, hurried down the stone steps. Evelyn's smirk widened. She assumed Richard was coming to personally thank her for protecting his estate's reputation.
"Richard, thank goodness you're here!" Evelyn cried out, stepping forward to greet him. "I caught this imposter trying to make off with this luxury car. I've already instructed security to handle him." But Richard didn't even look at Evelyn. His face was pale, beads of sweat forming on his forehead despite the pleasant weather. He pushed past her so quickly she nearly lost her balance, stopping directly in front of Carter.
To the utter shock of everyone watching, Richard bowed his head slightly, his voice trembling with deep respect.
"Mr. Vance, I am so incredibly sorry for this unforgivable disturbance. Please tell me my staff hasn't offended you,"Richard pleaded, his hands shaking. Evelyn froze, her jaw dropping as the color drained from her face. She looked from Richard to Carter, her mind scrambling to make sense of the sudden, terrifying shift in power.
