As Kevin smoothed out the crumpled receipt, his eyes scanned the frantic, uneven handwriting. The note detailed an urgent phone call from the bakery’s manager. The bakery had tried calling Kevin’s cell phone, but with the party preparations, he had left it on silent. They had finally reached the home phone, and Hazel had answered.
