Arthur held the card out for Katherine to see. It was an executive badge bearing the logo of the global grocery conglomerate, with the title: Arthur Vance, Founder & Chairman of the Board. Katherine's breath hitched, the color instantly draining from her face as she stared at the card, then up at the man she had just threatened.

"You see, Katherine, I built this chain fifty years ago. I still wear the apron because I like to stay close to the people who actually keep my business alive," Arthur said calmly. "And I certainly do not allow bullies in my establishments."

Without waiting for her to speak, Arthur pulled out his phone and dialed a number. "Marcus? It's Arthur. Cancel the acquisition negotiations with the Sterling Group immediately. Tell them we do not do business with families devoid of integrity. Yes, effective immediately."

Katherine stared in absolute horror as her husband's career and their family's financial future crumbled in a thirty-second phone call. She tried to stammer an apology, but Arthur raised a hand, silencing her instantly. "Please leave my store. You are no longer welcome here."

As a humiliated Katherine hurried out the doors, Arthur turned back to Hannah. He handed her a fresh, warm loaf of bread, along with a crisp hundred-dollar bill from his wallet. But he didn't stop there. Learning of her struggles, he offered her a full-time administrative position at the corporate headquarters, complete with healthcare and childcare benefits.

Hannah wept tears of joy, realizing her nightmare was finally over. True wealth isn't measured by the coat on your back, but by the kindness you show to those who have nothing.
