Previously: When Valerie's corrupt husband thought he could silence his elegant wife forever, he had no idea she was hiding her military uniform—and a deadly secret—underneath her golden gown.

Unmasking the Traitor

The deafening sound of shattering glass echoed through the night. Julian did not fall to the streets below; instead, he crashed heavily onto the reinforced glass canopy of the penthouse’s lower-level terrace, coughing up blood and groaning in agony. Above him, Valerie stood at the edge of the broken window, the high-altitude wind whipping through her hair. With the grace of a predator, she rappelled down the terrace support beams, her boots landing softly near his trembling body.

Julian looked up in terror, clutching his fractured ribs. "Who... what are you?" he wheezed, staring at the military uniform she wore with such fierce pride. The gold dress lay ruined upstairs, a metaphor for the fake life they had shared. Valerie stepped closer, her eyes burning with a righteous anger that had been simmering for five long years.

"I am Captain Valerie Vance of the United States Army Intelligence," she declared, her voice cutting through the wind. "And I am the officer in charge of the task force that is shutting you down tonight."

Julian’s eyes widened as the pieces began to fall into place. Five years ago, Valerie’s special forces unit had been ambushed in a covert operation, resulting in the tragic loss of her entire team. The tragedy had devastated her, but she had vowed to find the mole who sold their coordinates. Her investigation had led her directly to Julian Croft, a defense contractor who traded American lives for foreign gold. To get close to him, she had assumed a false identity, allowed him to "rescue" her from a fabricated tragedy, and married him to gain access to his highly encrypted personal servers.
