Previously: When the school’s golden girl tried to publicly humiliate Zoe over a designer bag, she didn't expect Zoe to fight back—or to expose the shocking truth about her own glamorous life.

The Mask Crumbles

The silence in the courtyard was broken by the sharp trill of the principal’s whistle. Within minutes, both girls were marched straight to Principal Vance’s office. Hailey was sobbing hysterically, holding an ice pack to her hip and loudly demanding that Zoe be expelled and arrested. Zoe sat quietly in the opposite chair, her expression unreadable, her posture perfectly straight.

But the real drama began when the parents arrived. Hailey’s mother, Eleanor, rushed into the room, draped in expensive-looking jewelry and smelling of costly perfume. She immediately began scolding Zoe. However, her tirade came to a screeching halt when the door opened again, and Zoe’s father, Arthur, walked in. He was a prominent local attorney, but more importantly, he was Eleanor's employer.

Eleanor’s face drained of all color. She instantly dropped her aggressive posture, her voice trembling as she greeted him.

"Mr. Sterling... I didn't realize it was your daughter," Eleanor stammered, casting a panicked look at Hailey.

Hailey looked confused, her tears drying up as she watched her mother suddenly turn subservient. Zoe finally spoke up, her voice calm but cutting.

"She attacked me because she thought my bag was fake, Eleanor. But when I defended myself, I noticed she was carrying the 'Lucci' bag. The one that was supposedly a limited-edition French import that you bought her for her birthday."

Arthur sighed deeply, looking at Eleanor with a mixture of disappointment and pity. The truth was far darker than schoolyard jealousy. For the past year, Eleanor had been working as the head housekeeper and estate manager for the Sterling family. Hailey’s entire high society lifestyle was a carefully constructed lie. She lived in the Sterling's guest cottage, wore Zoe's discarded designer clothes, and her mother bought cheap knockoffs from flea markets to keep up the illusion of wealth for Hailey’s snobbish school friends.
