A Shivering Homeless Woman Receives a Shocking Proposal From a Little Girl in the Snow
Previously: When little Sophia handed her lunch to a shivering homeless woman on a snowy park bench, her father watched in silence. But nobody expected the little girl to ask a question that would change their lives forever.
A Voice From the Past
Andrew stepped forward quickly, his face flushing with embarrassment as he heard his daughter's bold statement.
"Sophia, sweetheart, we don't ask people things like that," Andrew said gently, reaching out to take his daughter's hand. "I'm so sorry, ma'am. She didn't mean to make you uncomfortable."
But as Andrew got closer and Megan looked up to meet his gaze, the words died in his throat. The world seemed to stop spinning. The bearded man froze, his eyes locking onto Megan's pale, tear-stained face. He took a step back, his breath catching in his chest. Megan, too, seemed to paralyze, her grip tightening on the paper bag until the paper crinkled loudly.
"Megan?" Andrew whispered, his voice trembling. "Is that... is it really you?"
Megan pulled her cardigan tighter around her shoulders, looking away in deep shame. She tried to stand up, wanting nothing more than to disappear into the snowy labyrinth of the city.
"I... I have to go," Megan muttered, her voice shaking as she struggled to stand on her frozen feet.
But Andrew gently caught her sleeve. Tears were now streaming down his face, melting on his beard.
"Please, don't run away again," Andrew pleaded. "We've been looking for you for five years. After the accident... after we lost your sister, we thought we lost you too."
Sophia looked between her father and the crying woman, her young mind trying to piece together the sudden wave of emotion. Five years ago, a tragic car accident had claimed the life of Andrew's wife, Sarah. Megan was Sarah's younger sister. Consumed by survivor's guilt and a devastating spiral of depression, Megan had vanished from their lives, leaving no trace behind. Andrew had searched tirelessly, but she had slipped through the cracks of society, hiding her pain in the shadows of the streets.
