Previously: When Marcus rushed to his father's funeral, his sister Maria adamantly refused to let him open the casket. But a terrifying discovery beneath the crypt changed everything.

The Secret Beneath the Crypt

Forced out of the chapel by Maria’s private security, Marcus sat in his car, the rain drumming relentlessly against the windshield. He couldn't accept her explanation. His father had been in perfect health just days ago. Why the sudden death? Why the rushed, closed-casket funeral? Suddenly, his phone vibrated. It was an unknown number. When he answered, there was no voice, only a muffled, terrified gasp that sounded hauntingly familiar.

Driven by adrenaline, Marcus slipped back into the mausoleum through a side window, avoiding the guards. The crypt was now silent and dark. He approached the coffin, but as he pressed his ear to the cold wood, he heard nothing from within. Instead, a faint, rhythmic scratching sound seemed to echo from beneath the stone floor tiles.

Searching the shadows, Marcus discovered a heavy iron ring concealed behind a heavy velvet tapestry. With a desperate heave, he pulled it. A hidden stone hatch slowly swung open, revealing a dark, damp staircase leading into the subterranean depths of the family estate. He turned on his phone’s flashlight and descended into the freezing, musty air.

At the bottom of the stairs, the beam of light cut through the gloom, illuminating a terrifying sight. Tied to a wooden chair in the corner of the damp stone room was a man. Thick black tape was wrapped around his mouth, and his eyes were wide with sheer panic. It was Charles Vance. His father was alive, kept prisoner in his own family tomb. Before Marcus could rush to free him, the heavy stone hatch above slammed shut, plunging them into near-total darkness as footsteps began to descend.
