A Smug Champion Mocked an Elderly Woman, Until Her Secret Identity Was Revealed
Previously: When 24-year-old Lincoln mocked 68-year-old Mabel at the local shooting range, he thought she was just an easy target. But one look at her registration form changed everything.
The Shadow of the Past
Allan’s hands shook as he held the paper.
"You're Mabel Vance,"he breathed, his voice carrying across the quiet room.
"The Silver Shadow. The only shooter to hit a perfect score in the '84 trials before disappearing entirely."
The crowd erupted into whispers. Lincoln’s face turned pale. He had just insulted a living legend. But before Mabel could answer, the heavy oak door of the back office swung open. Victor, the wealthy and bitter owner of the range, stepped out. He snatched the paper from Allan’s hands, his eyes narrowing as he read the name.

Without a word, Victor tore the registration form in half and tossed it into the recycling bin.
"You're not competing here, Mabel,"Victor sneered, his voice dripping with venom.
"In fact, you're banned from this facility. Get out."
The crowd gasped. Allan stood up, protesting,
"Victor, you can't do this! She's a legend!"
"I own this place, Allan, and I say she's banned,"Victor replied coldly.
The truth was dark and deeply personal. Decades ago, Victor’s father had been Mabel’s coach. He had tried to force her to throw the Olympic trials in exchange for a massive payout from a betting syndicate. When Mabel refused and won honestly, she exposed the corruption, ruining Victor's father's career and driving their family into social exile. Victor had spent his entire life blaming Mabel for his family's downfall.
Lincoln looked between Victor and Mabel, realizing the petty drama unfolding. For all his cockiness, Lincoln respected the sport. Seeing a legend treated this way sparked something unexpected inside him.
"This isn't right,"Lincoln muttered, stepping forward.
"If she's who you say she is, she deserves to shoot. Or are you afraid she'll show everyone how weak your tournament really is?"
Victor glared at Lincoln, then turned his gaze back to Mabel.
"If she wants to shoot so badly, let's make a deal,"Victor whispered maliciously.
