A Smug Champion Mocked an Elderly Woman, Until Her Signature Stopped the Room Cold
Previously: When 24-year-old Lincoln mocked 68-year-old Mabel at the shooting range, he thought she was an easy target. But one look at her signature changed everything, revealing a legendary past.
The Ghost of the Range
The room remained suspended in a breathless silence as Allan stared at the signature. The name written in elegant, firm cursive was Mabel Vance. For Allan, it was like looking at a ghost. Thirty-five years ago, Mabel Vance had been the country's most promising marksman, a rising star destined for Olympic gold. But on the eve of the qualifiers, she had been disgraced, accused of sabotaging her teammate Richard's equipment and stealing team funds. She was banned for life, disappearing into self-imposed exile.
Lincoln, desperate to regain his footing after being humiliated, marched over to the desk. He sneered at the clipboard.

"What's the big deal, Allan?" Lincoln scoffed. "She's just some old lady who got lucky. And if she's who I think she is, she's a banned cheat! She shouldn't even be allowed in this building."
Mabel stood her ground, her expression calm despite the old pain ripping through her chest.
"I was framed, Allan," Mabel said softly. "You know Richard lied because I refused to let him win the national title."
"It doesn't matter what she says!" Lincoln shouted, reaching for the clipboard. "The official records say she's banned. I'm tearing this registration up right now to protect the integrity of this sport."
Before Lincoln’s fingers could rip the paper, a commanding voice boomed from the entrance of the range.
"Touch that paper, and you will never hold a sponsored weapon again," the voice warned.
Everyone turned to see a tall, silver-haired man in an immaculate tailored suit walking toward them. He was flanked by two security guards and carried a locked steel briefcase. Allan’s jaw dropped. It was Arthur Pendelton, the former head of the Olympic Ethics Committee. Arthur placed the briefcase on the counter and opened it, revealing a stack of yellowed documents and a handwritten letter.
