A Smug Soldier Mocked An Old Man, But A Single Tattoo Changed Everything
Previously: When a young, arrogant soldier mocked a seventy-two-year-old veteran at a dusty shooting range, he had no idea he was standing in the presence of a legendary ghost unit sniper.
A Legacy Unveiled
Colonel Vance stepped forward from the shade of the briefing tent, his face set in a stern, unyielding expression. The entire range fell into a hushed silence as the commander approached George. Without a word of warning, the Colonel snapped a crisp, rigid salute to the elderly veteran. Derek watched in absolute horror, his jaw slack. He had never seen the Colonel salute anyone with such profound, unprompted respect.
"Colonel?"Derek whispered, his voice trembling.
"Who is this man?"

Colonel Vance turned a cold, furious gaze upon the young soldier.
"This man, Sergeant, is the reason you are standing here today drawing breath. This is George Miller, the lead sniper of the legendary Ghost Unit. Thirty years ago, in the freezing peaks of the Hindu Kush, his squad was ambushed. George took a bullet to the shoulder but refused to retreat. He stayed behind to cover the evacuation of a wounded young lieutenant. He fired seventy-two rounds, holding off an entire enemy platoon single-handedly until help arrived."
Derek’s face drained of what little color it had left. The name George Miller echoed in his mind like a thunderclap.
"The lieutenant..."Derek stammered, his hands beginning to shake.
"The lieutenant was Marcus. My father."
George looked at the young soldier, his weathered features softening just a fraction. He saw it now—the same stubborn jawline, the same intense eyes of the young lieutenant he had dragged through three miles of snow and fire. Colonel Vance nodded slowly.
"Yes, Derek. This is the 'Ghost Wolf' your father spent the last thirty years searching for. The man who gave your father his own silver dog tag as a promise that they would meet again in another life. And you just insulted him."Shame, heavy and suffocating, washed over Derek as he fell to his knees in the hot desert sand.
