"Leo is your nephew, Matthew,"

I couldn't tell you because you were on a classified blackout mission, and I didn't want to jeopardize your safety with such heavy news. I wanted to tell you tonight, in private."

Jessica reached into her purse and pulled out the official adoption decree and Clara's final letter. Matthew took the papers, his hands shaking as he read his sister's handwriting. The DNA test was accurate about paternity—Matthew wasn't the father—but Leo was still his own flesh and blood, his beloved sister's legacy.

Matthew turned to his mother, his eyes flashing with absolute fury.

"You tried to destroy my marriage because of your own spite,"

"You didn't care about the truth. Get out of my house, Mom. And don't ever come back."
