Previously: When wealthy Eleanor attacked a young orphan at a lavish gala, she thought she was protecting her status. But when her soldier son recognized the fallen crest, a dark family secret exploded.

The Secret of the Silver Crest

The silence in the ballroom was absolute. Guests looked on in stunned disbelief as Thomas stood protective and tall between his mother and Clara, who was now clutching her baby tightly, tears streaming down her face. Eleanor tried to regain her composure, her hands shaking as she smoothed down her emerald gown. "Thomas, don't be ridiculous," she stammered, trying to laugh it off. "It is just a cheap trinket she must have stolen. She is a nobody."

But Thomas refused to back down. As a captain in the special forces, he knew the history of that specific crest. It belonged to his late father, a decorated general who had gone missing in action twenty-five years ago. Before his father's final deployment, he had commissioned two identical silver crests—one for Thomas, and one for his infant sister, Sarah, who had tragically disappeared from a hospital nursery shortly after her birth. Eleanor had always claimed the baby had died of a sudden illness, and that the second crest had been buried with her.

"My father made this with his own hands,"
Thomas said, his voice echoing off the gilded pillars. "He engraved our family motto on the back. Only two of these exist. Mine is around my neck right now. This one belonged to my sister, Sarah. The sister you told me died in her crib." He turned to Clara, his eyes softening. "Where did you get this, Clara?"

Clara sobbed, looking around the hostile room. "It was in the basket I was left in at the orphanage," she whispered, her voice cracking. "It is the only thing I have from my real parents. I've worn it every day of my life." Eleanor’s face turned from pale to an ash gray. She knew her decades-old web of lies was unraveling in front of the very society she had fought so hard to impress. The truth was about to destroy everything she had built.
