A Soldier Returns Home and Catches His Fiancée Cruelly Mistreating His Beloved Grandmother
Previously: When Sergeant Andrew Miller returned early from deployment, he expected a joyous family reunion. Instead, he walked into his kitchen to find his fiancée committing an act of unspeakable cruelty against his grandmother.
Unmasking the Monster
The kitchen fell dead silent, save for the sound of plaster dust settling onto the linoleum floor. Megan lay gasping among the ruins of the drywall, clutching her shoulder and staring at Andrew with wide, terrified eyes. The sweet, loving fiancée he thought he knew had vanished, replaced by a trembling, exposed bully.
Andrew didn't offer her a hand. Instead, he dropped to his knees beside Eleanor, gently brushing the sticky rice from her hair and wiping the tears from her wet cheeks. Eleanor clung to his uniform, her frail hands shaking. "You're home, Andy," she whispered, her voice cracking with emotion. "You're finally home."
"I'm here, Nana. I've got you," Andrew promised, his voice thick with unshed tears. He turned an icy, furious gaze onto Megan, who was slowly scrambling to her feet. "Explain yourself. Now."
Megan tried to adjust her posture, attempting to summon her usual manipulative charm. "Andrew, darling, it's not what it looks like! She's losing her mind. She dropped the plate herself and blamed me! I was just trying to clean it up, and she started screaming at me!"
Eleanor shook her head vigorously, pulling a small, black device from her apron pocket. "She's lying, Andy. She didn't know I bought this voice recorder last week. I was tired of nobody believing me."
With a trembling finger, Eleanor pressed play. The kitchen filled with Megan's harsh voice from earlier that morning, demanding Eleanor sign over the deed of the house. On the recording, Megan threatened to put Eleanor in the worst nursing home she could find if she didn't comply, admitting she was only marrying Andrew for his military benefits and his family's valuable property. Andrew listened, his heart breaking as the illusion of his perfect life shattered into a thousand pieces.
