Chloe lay on the floor, gasping for air and clutching her side where David's boot had connected. Beatrice shrieked, leaping up from the striped couch to help her daughter. "Are you insane, David?!" Beatrice screamed, her voice trembling with sudden fear. "You could have killed her! She is your wife!"

David didn't look at them. He immediately knelt beside his mother, gently lifting Evelyn's frail body from the wet floor. Her hands were shaking violently, and her cardigan was soaked. "David... oh, my sweet boy, you're home," Evelyn whispered, tears streaming down her pale cheeks. David wrapped his strong arms around her, his heart breaking into a million pieces. "I'm here, Mom. I've got you. Nobody is ever going to hurt you again," he promised, his voice thick with emotion.

He stood up, turning a gaze of pure ice toward Chloe, who was now standing, shielded by her mother. "Explain this. Now," David demanded, his voice dangerously low.

Chloe, recovering her composure, spat on the floor. "This is my house now, David! We don't need this old burden cluttering up our space. She belongs in a home, and she's going to work for her keep until she gets there!"

David's brow furrowed in confusion. "Your house? My father left this house to my mother."

Chloe let out a venomous laugh, pulling a document from the drawer of a nearby cabinet. "Not anymore. While you were away playing hero, your mother signed the deed over to me. She gave it to us. It is legally mine, and there is nothing you can do about it."

Evelyn sobbed, shaking her head. "She told me it was a medical authorization form, David! I couldn't read the small print without my glasses, and she forced me to sign it!" The horrifying truth finally clicked in David's mind. Chloe had systematically abused and tricked his mother to steal her home.
