Previously: When Julian returned from his military tour, he expected a warm family reunion. Instead, he walked into a nightmare, witnessing his cruel stepmother attacking his defenseless grandmother.

The Secrets in the Splinters

Julian knelt beside his grandmother, his hands trembling as he helped her sit up. Evelyn was bruised and shaking, but her eyes held a profound sense of relief. "You're home, Julian. Thank God you're home," she whispered, clutching his uniform. Julian looked over at the wreckage of the staircase. Victoria was groaning, covered in dust and splinters, her ruby-red dress torn and ruined. The fury in Julian's chest was a hot, burning fire. He demanded to know what could possibly drive his stepmother to such monstrous violence.

Through tears, Evelyn revealed the dark truth. For months, Victoria had been drowning in secret gambling debts. Desperate for a way out, she had cornered the matriarch, demanding that Evelyn sign over the deed to the historic Vance estate and the remaining family trust. When Evelyn steadfastly refused to sign the forged transfer documents, Victoria’s desperation turned into physical rage. "She was going to kill me, Julian," Evelyn sobbed. "She said no one would ever know."

From the debris, Victoria let out a harsh, mocking laugh. Coughing up dust, she glared at them with venomous eyes. "You think you've won?" she spat, struggling to stand. "If I go down, I'm taking this entire family with me. I know the truth about your father, Julian! Evelyn has been lying to you your whole life. He didn't die of a sudden heart attack. He was driven to the edge by this family's suffocating expectations, and Evelyn covered up the truth to protect her precious reputation!" The revelation hung in the tense air, threatening to shatter Julian’s world more than any physical blow ever could.
