Previously: When Sergeant Charles returned home from deployment, he expected a happy family reunion. Instead, he walked into a hospital room and caught his sister committing an unspeakable act.

The Depths of Betrayal

Amanda let out a sharp shriek as she hit the floor, sliding against the base of the medical cabinet. The loud crash and Charles’s furious shouting instantly drew the attention of the floor nurses, who rushed into the room, gasping at the chaotic scene. Charles paid them no mind; his entire focus was on his mother. He threw himself beside Frances, gently pulling the pillow away and checking her pulse. She was shaking, her pale face slick with cold sweat, but she was breathing. She clutched Charles’s pristine green sleeve, tears streaming down her hollow cheeks.

"You're safe now, Mom. I've got you. I'm here," Charles whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.

On the floor, Amanda groaned, nursing a bruised jaw as she glared up at her brother with eyes full of hatred. The nurses quickly moved to assist Frances, while security guards, alerted by the commotion, entered the room and pinned Amanda to the ground. Charles stood up, his tall frame casting a shadow over his sister. He pointed to a stack of legal documents scattered on the bedside table—a power of attorney and a revised will that stripped Frances of her home and life savings.

"You did all of this for money?" Charles demanded, his voice shaking with disgust. "She is your mother, Amanda! She gave you everything!"

Amanda spat on the floor, a bitter laugh escaping her lips. "She gave you everything, Charles! She was going to leave the house to you because you're the golden soldier! I deserved my share, and I needed it now!" But as the police arrived to handcuff Amanda, she let slip a devastating truth that chilled Charles to the bone. She had not acted alone. The lawyer who had drafted the fraudulent papers was Charles's own childhood best friend and Frances's trusted financial advisor, David.
