Previously: When soldier Garrett rescued a little boy trapped in a freezing backyard, he didn't expect to look through the window and see his own wife with another man.

A New Beginning from the Ashes

Clara let out a choked sob as Garrett tossed the bundle of unopened letters onto the coffee table. David fell back onto the sofa, burying his face in his hands. The truth was out, laid bare under the soft glow of the living room lamps.

"I loved her, Garrett," David whispered, his voice cracking. "You were gone, and I thought you were never coming back. I didn't want her to grieve forever. I wanted to be the one to save her."
"You didn't save her, David. You stole my life," Garrett replied, his voice deadly quiet but filled with a profound sadness. "You let my son grow up calling another man father, while I survived on the hope of seeing them again."

Clara looked at David with a mixture of horror and disgust. The man she had trusted, the man she had married out of grief, had built their entire life on a foundation of cruel lies. She pointed toward the front door, her voice steady despite her tears. "Get out, David. Leave this house and never come back." Knowing he had lost everything, David silently grabbed his coat and walked out into the freezing night, leaving the door to swing shut behind him.

The house fell silent. Clara turned to Garrett, her eyes searching his face, finding the boyish warmth she had mourned for three long years. Slowly, she stepped into his arms, weeping against his shoulder as he held her tight, just as he had held their son in the snow.

A few moments later, little Leo peeked around the corner, his eyes wide. Garrett knelt down and extended his hand. "Hey there, Leo. I'm your dad. And I promise I'm never leaving again." As Leo ran into his embrace, Garrett knew the road to healing would be long and difficult, but they were finally together.

True love and family bonds can survive the darkest winters of deception, proving that the truth will always find its way home.
