The Corrupt Cover-Up

Clara gasped for breath, her hand pressed against her bruised chest as Marcus knelt beside her. "Are you alright, ma'am? Just breathe, I've got you," Marcus said, his voice a calm contrast to the violent encounter. Rex stood guard, his low growl keeping a dazed Julian pinned to the floor. But the peace was short-lived. The heavy security doors burst open, and two hospital guards rushed into the corridor. Clara felt a surge of relief, but it quickly turned to dread as she realized who they were. They bypassed Julian and drew their batons, pointing them directly at Marcus.

"Step away from Mr. Sterling right now, soldier!"

the lead guard barked. Clara realized with horror that Julian's influence ran deeper than she imagined; the hospital's private security was on his payroll. Julian struggled to his feet, wiping blood from his split lip. A wicked smile returned to his face as he adjusted his crumpled suit jacket.

"Arrest him for assault,"

Julian hissed, pointing at Marcus. "And take that flash drive from the nurse. She stole proprietary company data." Marcus didn't flinch. He stood up slowly, towering over the guards, his military digital camouflage a symbol of unyielding authority. He positioned himself as a human shield in front of Clara. "I suggest you boys think very carefully about your next move," Marcus warned, his voice icy. Clara held the flash drive high. "This drive contains proof that Julian is knowingly killing patients for profit! You can't cover this up!" Julian laughed dryly. "I own this hospital, nurse. My money makes me untouchable. No one will ever believe you."
