After the chaotic confrontation, Thomas ushered a screaming Chloe out of the house, promising his mother that he would deal with her once and for all. Evelyn sat on the sofa, her hands trembling as she sipped a cup of warm tea. She felt incredibly blessed to have a son like Thomas. For years, Chloe had demanded that Evelyn sell the estate and split the inheritance early. Evelyn had always refused, wanting to live out her remaining days in the home she built with her late husband. Thomas had always stood by her, acting as her shield against Chloe’s relentless harassment.

An hour later, Thomas returned, his expression weary but comforting.

"She won't bother you anymore, Mother,"

he promised, gently patting her hand.

"I've convinced her to take a trip and clear her head. But for your own safety, I think we need to secure your assets. I have some papers here that will put the house in my name, just so Chloe can't try any legal tricks."

Evelyn, blinded by gratitude, was ready to sign. Thomas placed the legal documents on the coffee table, handing her a pen. But as she leaned forward, her eyes caught a small, blinking blue light sticking out from beneath the sofa cushions. It was a digital voice recorder—one she recognized as belonging to Chloe, who often used it for her college lectures. Curious and slightly suspicious, Evelyn paused.

"Let me just get my reading glasses from upstairs, dear,"

she murmured, leaving the room.

Instead of getting her glasses, Evelyn slipped into the hallway and pressed play on the device, which had been recording for hours. What she heard chilled her to the bone. It wasn't Chloe who had planned the attack. It was Thomas. On the recording, Thomas's voice was clear and cold: "Just push her a little, Chloe. Make it look bad. I'll play the hero, she'll trust me completely, and she'll sign the deed over to me. Once I have the house, we split the money and put her in a home." Chloe had agreed, eager for her share. The entire assault had been a staged performance to manipulate an old woman's heart.
