Previously: When Chloe accidentally spilled her lunch on an elderly cafeteria worker, a giant biker stepped in to defend him. But a shocking revelation proved they were connected by a long-lost past.
A Protective Shield
Marcus didn’t back down. He crossed his massive arms, his eyes scanning Chloe’s terrified face. The entire cafeteria had gone dead silent; students held their breath, expecting a massive scene. "Ray’s been working here for years," Marcus growled, his voice echoing under the high ceiling. "He doesn't deserve to be treated like some punching bag by clumsy kids who don't look where they're going."
"Please, it was an accident!" Chloe pleaded, a tear finally escaping and rolling down her cheek. "I tripped on the table leg. I would never do that on purpose!"
Before Marcus could say another word, a gentle hand rested on his thick shoulder. It was Ray. Despite being covered in red sauce, the older man's expression was incredibly calm, almost serene. He looked at Marcus and shook his head gently.
"Put it rest, Marcus. She's telling the truth. It was just a slip,"
Ray said, his voice soft and soothing. He then turned his gaze directly to Chloe. As his eyes locked onto hers, his calm demeanor suddenly shattered. Ray froze, his eyes widening as he stared at the small silver locket hanging around Chloe's neck. His face went pale, and his hands began to shake.
"Where... where did you get that locket, young lady?" Ray asked, his voice suddenly thick with emotion, ignoring the mess on his shirt entirely. Chloe reached up instinctively, her fingers wrapping around the silver heart-shaped pendant her mother had given her before she passed away.
"It was my mother's,"
Chloe whispered, confused by the sudden shift in the old man's demeanor. Marcus looked between them, his aggressive posture melting into confusion. Ray took a step closer, his eyes glassy with unshed tears. "Your mother... was her name Evelyn?" he asked, his voice barely audible. Chloe's heart stopped. "Yes," she whispered. "How do you know that?"
”she whispered. "How do you know that?"
