Previously: When starving Ari swiped her late father's old card just to buy bread, she had no idea it would trigger an emergency silent alarm in a high-rise billionaire's boardroom.

Back at the bank, the silence was deafening. Marcus stared at his frozen terminal, his polite smile completely vanishing. He looked from the screen to Ari, his eyes wide with a mixture of awe and fear.

"I... I need to call my manager,"

he stammered, stepping away from the counter.

Clara squeezed Ari’s shoulder.

"It's going to be okay, sweetie. Just hang in there."

But it wasn't okay. Within five minutes, the heavy glass doors of the bank lobby swung open. Two burly men in dark suits entered, followed closely by Arthur Vance himself. His expensive leather shoes clicked sharply against the marble floor. He spotted Ari in her faded yellow hoodie and marched straight toward her, a predatory smile plastered across his face.

The Uninvited Guest

"Ari, my dear child,"

Arthur said, his voice dripping with false warmth.

"I've been looking for you everywhere since your father passed. You shouldn't be wandering around in this state."

Ari shrank back, remembering the cold, threatening letters this man had sent her mother years ago.

"What are you doing here?"

she asked, her voice trembling.

"I'm here to help you,"

Arthur lied smoothly, gesturing to his assistant who held out a tablet.

"Your father left some unfinished business. Just sign these release forms, and I will personally ensure you never have to worry about food or shelter again. Let's do it quickly, before the bank gets complicated."

Clara stepped between Arthur and the terrified young woman.

"Who are you? She is exhausted and hungry. She isn't signing anything without a lawyer,"

Clara demanded, her voice firm.

Arthur’s eyes narrowed, his polite facade slipping.

"Step aside, lady. This is family business, and you have no idea who you are dealing with."

He signaled his security guards to move in, desperate to secure Ari's signature before the bank's automated trust division fully processed the card swipe.
