Previously: When Amanda saw her stepbrother Robert physically attacking their frail mother, Grace, she didn't hesitate to jump in. But the confrontation unearthed a dark, decades-old family secret that changed everything.

The Confrontation and the Secret

Amanda stood her ground, her arms wrapped tightly around her shaking mother. "Are you insane, Robert?" she yelled, her eyes darting between her stepbrother and the front door. "You could have killed her! What is wrong with you?" Grace was sobbing softly into Amanda's shoulder, her fragile hands clutching her daughter's jacket. Robert slowly pushed himself up against the wall, coughing, but the anger in his eyes hadn't faded one bit. Instead, a bitter, mocking laugh escaped his lips.

"You think she's an innocent victim, Amanda?" Robert spat, wiping a speck of blood from his lip. "You have no idea who you are protecting. Ask her about the safe in the basement. Ask her about my father's will!"

Amanda frowned, looking down at her mother. Grace suddenly went rigid, her crying stopping instantly. She refused to meet Amanda's gaze, staring intently at the wooden floor. Amanda's stomach dropped. There was a heavy, suffocating silence in the hallway. Robert stepped forward, though he kept his distance from Amanda, wary of another attack.

Robert pulled a crumpled, yellowed piece of paper from his pocket and threw it onto the floor between them. It was a copy of a legal document from twenty years ago—the time of his father’s passing. Robert explained, his voice shaking with deep-seated pain, that Grace had forged his father's signature on a revised will. She had stripped Robert of his rightful inheritance, using those funds to pay for Amanda's expensive private schooling and college tuition, leaving Robert to struggle in poverty for decades.

"I found the original copy in her old safe box today," Robert whispered, tears finally escaping his angry eyes. "She stole my life, Amanda. She made me a beggar so you could live like royalty."
