Previously: Hannah thought she could survive her cruel stepmother's abuse in silence, but when her father returned home early, a dark family secret finally came to light.

A Mother's Legacy

Patricia’s face drained of all color as she stared at the tablet screen. The undeniable proof of her cruelty was right there, recorded in high definition. Realizing she could no longer lie her way out, her faux-gentle demeanor vanished, replaced by a venomous sneer.

"So what?" Patricia hissed, crossing her arms. "You want a divorce? Go ahead. Our prenuptial agreement guarantees me half of this estate and a massive monthly alimony. You’ll ruin yourself just to protect her!"

Edward let out a dry, humorless laugh. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a document.

"I suggest you re-read the fine print of that agreement, Patricia," Edward said, his voice steady and powerful. "Section nine clearly states that any act of domestic abuse, psychological torment, or illegal endangerment of my immediate family nullifies every single financial payout. You are leaving this house with nothing but the clothes on your back."

Patricia gasped, her eyes wide with horror as the reality of her ruin set in. Within minutes, Edward had the estate security escort her out of the gates, leaving her alone on the dark street in her ruined lavender gown. The nightmare was finally over.

Edward turned back to Hannah, wiping the remaining tears from her cheeks. He pulled her into another tight hug, promising her that she would never have to feel unsafe in her own home again.

"Your late mother loved this house because it was filled with love," Edward murmured softly. "I will never let anyone tarnish her memory, or hurt you, ever again."

As they walked up the grand staircase together, Hannah felt the heavy burden lift from her shoulders. She was no longer the servant in her own home; she was a beloved daughter, protected by a father who would tear down the world to keep her safe. True family is defined by protection and love, and no amount of wealth can ever mask a cruel heart.
