Previously: When her father's nanny is put on trial for murder, a grieving daughter bursts into the courtroom with a secret recording that turns the entire case upside down.

The Voice from Beyond the Grave

A collective murmur rippled through the gallery. Judge Catherine banged her gavel, demanding order. Jessica leaned over to James, frantically whispering, her hands trembling. James immediately stood. "Your Honor, this is highly irregular. The defense has not been notified of this evidence, and the witness is clearly emotionally unstable."

"Quiet, counsel," Judge Catherine warned. She looked at Ashley, her eyes softening slightly but remaining firm. "Bring the device to the bailiff." Ashley handed over the silver recorder. The court technician quickly hooked it up to the courtroom's audio system. The silence in the room was absolute as a soft static filled the speakers.

Then, a weak, raspy voice filled the room. It was Richard Vance.

"Jessica, please... my heart medication. I can't breathe,"
the recording played. The courtroom held its collective breath. Jessica’s voice came next, loud, clear, and dripping with venom.
"You should have thought about that before you threatened to write me out of the will, Richard. Go ahead, gasp for air. Nobody is going to save you."

Gasps erupted from the jury box. Ashley sobbed quietly, holding onto the wooden railing for support. The recording continued, exposing a chilling, pre-meditated plan. Jessica’s recorded voice sneered,

"And don't worry about your precious nanny, Maria. Everyone knows she handles your pills. The police will think she made a tragic mistake. It’s perfect."

The revelation was a physical blow to everyone in the room. Maria, sitting at the defense table in handcuffs, burst into tears of relief, burying her face in her hands. James slowly sat back down, his face pale, realizing he had been defending a monster.
