Previously: When Leo rushed home to attend his father's sudden wake, his stepmother Maria insisted the casket remain closed. But the dark truth trapped inside was far more terrifying than any disease.

The Truth Unleashed

Seeing her plan unravel, Maria turned and bolted for the door. But Leo was faster. He lunged across the living room, blocking her exit. With a desperate swipe, he grabbed her designer purse, spilling its contents onto the hardwood floor. Among the cosmetics and keys, a heavy brass key slid across the floor. Leo snatched it up, ignored Maria's screams, and rushed back to the casket.

He jammed the key into the lock, turned it with a heavy click, and threw the heavy walnut lid open. The sight inside made his blood run cold. His father, Arthur, was bound and gagged, his face pale and sweat-drenched, his eyes wide with tears of relief. Leo instantly ripped the tape from his father's mouth and cut the ropes binding his wrists.

Arthur gasped for air, coughing violently as he hugged his son.

"She... she tried to kill me, Leo,"
Arthur wheezed, pointing a trembling finger at Maria, who was frozen in terror near the door.
"She and her accomplice drugged me. They wanted to declare me dead and inherit the entire estate before I could change my will."

Before Maria could escape, headlights flashed through the front window. Leo had secretly called the local sheriff on his drive over, suspicious of the sudden wake. Sirens wailed in the distance as deputies stormed the house, immediately placing a weeping Maria in handcuffs. She had planned the perfect crime, using a fake medical report to rush a closed-casket burial, but she hadn't counted on Leo's deep love for his father.

As the paramedics checked Arthur's vitals, Leo held his father’s hand tightly, promising never to let anyone come between them again. They had survived a nightmare, but their bond was now unbreakable. True family love is a light that no darkness, and no locked box, can ever truly extinguish.
