Katherine’s face drained of color, turning as pale as the marble steps she stood upon. "Richard, don't listen to this street urchin!" she shrieked, rushing down to grab the bottle. "He’s a thief! He looked at the liquid, then back to Mia's pale face behind the dark lenses.

"What is this, Katherine?" Richard demanded, his voice dangerously calm. Sam stepped forward, his chest heaving. "My mother works at the local pharmacy, Mr. Sterling. I saw Mrs. Sterling buying that specific drug under a fake name. It's a powerful ophthalmic solution used to dilate pupils and blur vision. If you give it to someone every day, they can't see a thing. They look blind."

Richard’s world spun. He remembered how Mia’s vision had slowly deteriorated right after he married Katherine.
