A Storm's Fury, A Chef's Despair

The wind howled a furious symphony, a relentless assault against the steel and glass of the Michelin-star kitchen. Outside, the ocean was a monstrous, churning beast, hurling itself against the coast with a violence that shook the very foundations of the restaurant. Rain lashed the panoramic windows, blurring the world into a chaotic watercolor of grey and black. Inside, the warm, hissing glow of gas burners beneath suspended copper pans was a stark contrast to the icy fear that gripped Silas, the head chef. Steam rose from the wet stainless-steel pass, mingling with the frigid drafts that snaked in from the storm-battered side door. Her breath hitched, a ragged sob escaping her lips as she stared, paralyzed, at her bare left ring finger. It was gone. His ring. The one he’d slipped onto her finger just before he sailed out for the last time. The storm had taken it. It had ripped it right off, and she felt his soul being pulled away, buried somewhere in that black, unforgiving tide.

Suddenly, the kitchen door burst open. A figure stood silhouetted against the tempest, rainwater cascading from his black neoprene storm jacket. He was a stranger, weathered and grim, a metal detector slung over his back. He strode forward, water dripping from his dark hair onto the gleaming stainless steel, his eyes locking onto Silas's with an unnerving intensity. His jaw set with grim focus. He reached into his zip-sealed storm pocket as Silas watched, her bloodshot eyes widening in shock.

"The waves ripped it right off my finger... his final piece of soul is buried in the black tide!"
"The storm tide buries nothing when you know how to listen to the seabed."

Silas clutched her chef's coat lapel, her chest heaving with silent sobs. Her pupils dilated as the stranger continued to advance, his weathered fingers emerging from his pocket.
