Liam gritted his teeth, the coppery taste of blood filling his mouth as his knuckles scraped raw against the rusted iron. He wrapped a heavy mooring chain around his bare, shuddering forearms, straining to hold the cellar doors flush against the howling void. The sheer physical exertion was immense, pushing him to the very limits of his endurance.

"Take the emergency survival kit under the floorboards... don't let my sacrifice be for nothing!"

he roared, the words bared through clenched teeth. Richard, jolted by the urgency and the sight of Liam’s bleeding arms, finally moved. He scrambled up the cellar steps, his movements jerky and panicked. His eyes darted between Liam and the raging storm outside. He reached into his sodden overcoat and pulled out a mud-caked platinum watch and a thick leather wallet. With trembling, tear-choked desperation, he offered them to Liam, shoving them towards the maelstrom.

"Let go, the tornado will tear you apart! Take everything I own, just pull yourself inside!"

Richard’s voice cracked, his plea raw with a desperate remorse. Liam’s jaw clenched rock-solid. He ignored the offered riches, his gaze fixed on the raging storm. Salt spray streaked his weathered face, but his eyes blazed with an unbreakable heroic resolve. He tightened his grip, his boots locked against the masonry wall.
