The ballroom erupted into chaos. Richard pushed his way through the stunned onlookers, his face twisted in a mixture of rage and terror. "Get your hands off her!" he roared, signaling the security guards to grab the young man. "Sophia, sit down immediately! You are endangering your health!" Richard reached out to force her back into the wheelchair, but Sophia stepped backward, amazed and horrified by her own sudden mobility. She pushed his hands away.

The guards tackled the young man to the marble floor, pinning him down. Yet, he kept his eyes locked on Sophia. "My name is Liam!" he shouted, struggling against the heavy grip of the guards. "My mother was Dr. Clara Vance, your mother’s closest friend and cardiologist! She didn't die of a heart attack, Sophia! Richard had her silenced because she discovered the truth!"

Sophia felt the room spin. "What truth?" she demanded, looking between her stepfather and the bruised young man on the floor.

"He has been drugging you!"

Liam yelled, his voice echoing off the high ceilings.

"The physical therapy supplements he forces you to take every night are laced with a rare neurotoxin. It didn't cure you; it kept you paralyzed! He needed you helpless so he could remain the sole trustee of your mother's estate!"

A collective gasp rippled through the high-society crowd. Richard’s face turned a ghostly pale. "He’s a lunatic! A trespasser!" Richard screamed, his voice cracking. "Drag him out of here and call the police!"

But Sophia stood her ground, her mind racing. She remembered the bitter taste of the medicine Richard insisted she take herself every night. She looked down at Liam, then at the silver crest pendant. Liam managed to raise his head. "The pendant contains a micro-chip," Liam gasped. "My mother hid the medical records, the toxicology reports, and the wiretaps of Richard bribing your doctor inside it. I had to break into Richard's private safe tonight to find the decryption key. That's why his thugs hunted me!"
