Previously: When Audrey asked a handsome stranger in a wheelchair to dance to escape her toxic ex-fiancé, she had no idea his response would shatter her ex's lies and change her life forever.

The Confrontation

"Are you really that desperate, Audrey?" Richard sneered, stepping into their space. He looked at Marcus with blatant condescension. "Asking a man in a wheelchair to dance? I knew you were pathetic after we broke up, but this is a new low."

Audrey felt her cheeks burn with anger. "Richard, stop it! Leave us alone and walk away," she hissed, stepping between him and Marcus. But Richard was fueled by his own arrogance. He wanted to assert dominance in front of the high-society guests who were now turning to watch the scene unfold.

"Do you even know who this is?" Richard mocked, pointing a finger at the man. "This is Marcus Vance. He used to head Vance Enterprises until his accident. Now, he's just a shadow of his former self, sitting in a chair, clinging to past glory."

Marcus remained calm, but his jaw clenched. Richard reached out and grabbed Audrey’s arm, his grip painfully tight. "We’re leaving, Audrey. You’re coming with me."

"Take your hands off her," Marcus said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, icy register.

Richard laughed, completely unfazed. "Or what? You're going to roll over my feet? You can't even stand up to defend your own honor, let alone hers."

What happened next silenced the entire ballroom. Marcus placed his hands firmly on the armrests of his wheelchair. With a slow, deliberate effort that strained his muscles, he began to push himself upward. Audrey watched in absolute disbelief as his legs, which Richard had assumed were completely useless, straightened. Marcus stood at his full height, towering over a suddenly pale Richard.

"I might have been recovering from spinal surgery," Marcus whispered, his eyes locking onto Richard’s trembling frame. "But my standing in this town, and my ownership of the bank that holds your company's massive debt, remains entirely intact. You are finished, Richard."
