Previously: When Audrey asked a handsome stranger in a wheelchair to dance to escape her toxic ex-fiancé, she had no idea his response would shatter her ex's lies and change her life forever.

A New Beginning

Richard’s face was completely drained of color. He staggered backward, his eyes darting frantically around the room as he realized the gravity of his mistake. Marcus Vance was not just a wealthy heir; he was the primary shareholder of the regional bank that had recently funded Richard's latest, highly leveraged real estate project. With a single phone call, Marcus could ruin Richard's entire empire.

Within seconds, two large security guards appeared at Marcus's side. "Mr. Vance, is there a problem?" one of them asked, eyeing Richard warily.

"Please escort this gentleman out of my gala," Marcus said calmly, adjusting his navy tuxedo jacket. "And make sure he is barred from all future events."

Richard tried to stammer an apology, but the guards quickly grabbed his arms and dragged him out of the ballroom, leaving him to face public humiliation. The crowd watched in stunned silence before returning to their hushed conversations, realizing that Marcus Vance was back in control.

Marcus turned to Audrey, his stern expression softening back into the gentle gaze she had first seen. He slowly sat back down in his wheelchair, exhaling a soft breath. "I apologize for that," he said with a small smile. "I am still undergoing physical therapy after a skiing accident. I can stand for short periods, but my doctors say it will be a few more months before I can properly walk, let alone dance."

Audrey knelt beside him, placing her hand over his. "You don't need to apologize. You saved me from him," she said softly, her heart fluttering. "Thank you, Marcus."

Marcus smiled, a genuine warmth filling his eyes. He took her hand once more. "I may not be able to spin you around the floor just yet," he murmured. "But if you don't mind a very slow, swaying dance right here... I would be honored."

As the music swelled, Audrey leaned in, swaying gently with Marcus as he held her close. In that moment, she realized that sometimes, the most beautiful steps forward in life are the ones we take when we least expect them.
