A Strangers Cry on a Rainy Street Leads a Woman to Her Missing Sister
Previously: A late-night encounter under city lights turns into a shocking revelation when a young boy reveals a family heirloom Jessica thought she would never see again.
The Search in the Shadows
Overcome with shock, Jessica fell to her knees on the damp pavement, grabbing the boy's shoulders gently. She looked into his eyes, searching for any resemblance to her lost sister. There was no mistake; he had Clara's striking green eyes.
"What is your name, sweetheart?" Jessica asked, her voice cracking with emotion.
"Liam," the boy replied, sniffing. "My mom is very sick. She told me to look for the lady in the red jacket. She said you would know what to do."
Desperation seized Jessica. She demanded to know where his mother was. Liam pointed down toward the old, abandoned industrial docks—a desolate part of the city known for its dangerous, empty warehouses. Without a second thought, Jessica grabbed Liam’s small hand, and they ran through the dark, wet streets, the cold night air burning her lungs.
Liam led her to a rusted iron door at the side of a decaying brick building. He pushed it open, revealing a dark, steep staircase leading into a damp basement. A heavy, musty smell filled the air as they descended into the dim, flickering light of a single bare bulb. There, on a thin mattress in the corner, lay a frail, motionless woman.
Jessica rushed forward and fell to her knees, pulling back the thin blanket. Her heart broke at the sight. It was Clara, pale, thin, and burning with a fever, but alive. As Jessica reached out to touch her sister's face, a heavy shadow detached itself from the corner of the room.
A tall, imposing man stepped into the light, a cruel smirk playing on his lips as he locked the heavy wooden door behind them.
"Well, well," the man sneered, holding a rusted iron pipe. "I knew the boy would bring you right to us. You should have minded your own business, Jessica."
