Previously: When young Toby publicly claimed his nanny was his real mother at a high-society gala, Victoria was humiliated. But a hidden keepsake box would soon reveal a heartbreaking truth.

The Secret in the Keepsake Box

The ride home was dead silent. Victoria stared out the window of the limousine, tears quietly tracking down her cheeks, while her husband, Arthur, sat rigidly beside her, refusing to make eye contact. Toby had cried himself to sleep in the back seat, his small hand still clutching Clara’s sleeve. As soon as they crossed the threshold of their estate, Victoria ordered Toby to be put to bed. Once the boy was asleep, she marched straight to Clara’s quarters, demanding answers.

"Did you brainwash my son?" Victoria demanded, her voice shaking with rage and betrayal. "How dare you let him believe such a lie! I took you into our home, and you humiliate me in front of the entire city!"

Clara sat on the edge of her small cot, her shoulders shaking as she wept silently. Slowly, she stood up and walked over to her closet, pulling out a small, weathered wooden keepsake box. With trembling hands, she unlocked it and held out a yellowed piece of paper and a tiny pink plastic hospital band. Victoria snatched them away, her eyes scanning the documents. Her breath caught in her throat. It was a birth certificate from a rural clinic, listing Clara as the biological mother of a baby boy born on the exact same day as Toby.

"What is this?" Victoria whispered, her heart hammering against her ribs. "This is a forgery."

"It’s not a lie, Victoria," Clara sobbed, falling to her knees. "Six years ago, I was homeless and desperate. Your husband, Arthur, approached me. He knew you couldn't conceive, and he offered to pay all my medical bills if I surrendered my baby to a private adoption. But he made a deal with me—he promised I could be near my son if I agreed to work as his nanny for free, under a false identity. He told me if I ever told you the truth, he would use his power to make sure I never saw Toby again."
