The Gates Close Forever

Edward called in every favor, every contact, and every resource to track Derek down. The estate was placed on lockdown, with security cameras scanning every corner. But Derek was cunning, and he'd had years to plan. He surfaced three days later, in the middle of the night, sneaking through the service tunnels beneath the mansion. His goal was simple: find the hidden heir and eliminate her before Edward could secure her claim.

But Edward was ready. He'd installed a new security system, one that detected the motion of any intruder. When Derek tripped the alarm, the entire estate lit up like a fortress. Edward rolled his wheelchair into the grand hall, where Clara stood beside him, her hand in his. Derek burst through the door, his face twisted with fury, a gun in his hand.

"You think you can stop me, old man?" Derek spat. "That child is the only thing standing between me and the fortune. I'll kill her just like I killed your wife!"

Edward's heart stopped. "You killed Eleanor?"

Derek laughed, a cold, hollow sound. "She found out about my plan. She was going to expose me. The car accident? That was me. I cut the brake lines, just like I did to your wheelchair. And I'd have gotten away with it if not for that little brat!"

Clara squeezed Edward's hand, her eyes fierce. Edward's rage was blinding, but he forced himself to stay calm. He had one card left to play. "Derek," he said, his voice steady, "you're not family. Eleanor's letter proved it. You're a fraud, a thief, and a murderer. And I've already transferred the entire Vance fortune into a trust for my daughter."

Derek's gun wavered. "You're lying!"

"Am I?" Edward smiled, a cold, triumphant smile. "Check your phone. The bank confirmation is already in your inbox."

Derek fumbled for his phone, his eyes scanning the screen. In that moment of distraction, the guards moved in, tackling him to the ground. The gun skittered across the floor, and Derek was handcuffed before he could react. Edward rolled forward, his voice low and lethal. "You'll spend the rest of your life in prison, Derek. And I'll make sure you rot there."

As the guards dragged Derek away, Edward turned to Clara, his eyes glistening. "My daughter," he whispered. "My beautiful, brave daughter." Clara smiled through tears, and Edward pulled her into a tight embrace. "You saved my life, Clara. And now I'm going to give you the life you deserve."

The next day, the estate was transformed. Clara was given a room of her own, filled with toys and books and a bed with soft, warm blankets. She was enrolled in the best schools, and she never had to walk barefoot again. But more importantly, she had a father who loved her, and a family that would protect her at all costs. As Edward watched her play in the garden, he knew that Eleanor was smiling down on them, and that the Vance legacy would live on—not through blood, but through love.
