Previously: Five years after Julian walked away from our love for his family's fortune, he tracks me down to my isolated homestead—only to discover the five-year-old son I raised alone.

The Truth Unveiled

Sarah felt the ground slipping away. She squeezed Leo tighter, feeling the boy’s small hands grip her overalls in confusion. There was no denying the truth; the resemblance was undeniable.

"Yes, Julian,"
she whispered, her voice trembling but defiant.
"He is your son. The son you never knew, because your family made sure I had to run for my life."

Julian took a step back, looking as though he had been physically struck. He slowly sank to his knees, heedless of the dirt staining his expensive trousers, and looked at Leo with tears streaming down his face.

"I didn't know, Sarah,"
he choked out.
"I swear to you, I never knew. My father... he told me you took the money and ran. He showed me a signed agreement."

Sarah let out a bitter, hollow laugh.

"I never took a dime! Your father threatened to ruin my family's business and put my parents in prison if I didn't disappear. I found out I was pregnant the day I left. I couldn't let them take my baby."

Julian stood up, pulling a crumpled document from his breast pocket.

"My father died six months ago, Sarah. In his final confession, he admitted to everything. He forged your signature. I’ve spent every single day since then searching for you. I walked away from the family company. I don't care about the fortune anymore. I only care about you."

Before Sarah could process his words, the roar of another engine filled the air. A silver SUV tore up the driveway, kicking up a cloud of dust. The doors flew open, and out stepped Victoria, Julian’s formidable mother, flanked by two high-priced corporate attorneys. Victoria sneered at the humble cabin before her cold eyes locked onto Leo. A triumphant, predatory smile spread across her face.

"I knew you were hiding something, Julian,"
Victoria said, her voice dripping with venom.
"And now, we have the heir to the family estate. Hand the boy over, Sarah. You are utterly unfit to raise a child of our stature, and we have the legal paperwork to prove it."
