Previously: A fake heir, a forged contract, and a quiet boy with a silver locket. When the truth comes out in a single moment, a billionaire's world shatters—and a true son is finally found.

Blackthorne’s Last Card and the Hidden Number

Days passed in a blur of soft beds, warm meals, and the smell of lavender in Evelyn’s embrace. But the peace was a lie. Every night, I dreamed of Blackthorne’s face, twisted in rage, and the photo he’d dropped.

Harrison had the number traced, but the line was dead. "It’s a burner," he said, rubbing his temples. "Whoever your mother was running from, they covered their tracks well."

I sat on the edge of the library desk, my legs dangling, the locket cold in my palm. "Mama used to read me letters from a man called Uncle Silas. She said he was a friend. But she cried when she got them."

Evelyn knelt beside me, her hand gentle on my cheek. "Uncle Silas?" she repeated, her voice strained.

Harrison’s face hardened. "Silas Vane. The man who tried to ruin our bank ten years ago. He was convicted of fraud, but he escaped prison two years back. No one knew where he went."

My heart pounded. "Mama said he was coming for me. That’s why she hid me with Blackthorne."

The room went silent. Harrison pulled out his phone, dialing a number I didn’t recognize. "Get me the warden at Blackgate. Now."

But before he could finish, the library doors burst open. Blackthorne stood there, his pinstripe suit rumpled, flanked by two men in dark coats. He wasn’t in handcuffs—he was free.

"Hello, Harrison," he said, his smile like a knife. "Did you really think a little forged paper would stop me?"

Evelyn stepped in front of me, her voice sharp. "You’re under arrest, you monster—"

But Blackthorne laughed. "The charges were dropped. Lack of evidence. You see, that adoption contract? It wasn’t the only lie. Your real son? He was never missing." He pointed at me. "This boy is a plant. A street orphan I paid to play a part."

My blood ran cold. "That’s not true!" I shouted, but my voice cracked.

Harrison’s eyes flickered with doubt. "Noah, is this true?"

I shook my head, tears blurring my vision. "I swear, I’m your son. The locket—the tag—"

"Props," Blackthorne spat. "Easily faked. I had the hospital records forged months ago."

Evelyn’s face went pale. She looked at me, and I saw the fear in her eyes—the fear that they’d been fooled again.

"There’s one way to know for sure," Harrison said, his voice low. "A DNA test. And I’ve already ordered one—it’s on its way."

Blackthorne’s smirk faltered. "That will take weeks—"

"It’s already done," Harrison cut him off, pulling out a sealed envelope from his jacket. "I had it run last night. The results are right here."

The room held its breath. Blackthorne’s men shifted, their hands inching toward their coats.

I stared at the envelope, my heart pounding so hard I thought it might burst. If the results said I was a liar, I’d lose everything. But if they said the truth—

Harrison tore it open, his eyes scanning the page. His face went from hard to stone, then to a rage I’d never seen. He looked at Blackthorne, and his voice was ice. "You almost got away with it."

Blackthorne took a step back. "What does it say?"

Harrison threw the paper at him. "It says he’s my son. 99.9% match. You lied, Blackthorne. And now—" He gestured to the guards, who had appeared behind Blackthorne. "You’re done."

But as the guards closed in, Blackthorne pulled out a gun, aiming it straight at Evelyn. "No one moves, or she’s dead."

I screamed, "Mom!"

Time seemed to freeze. Harrison raised his hands, his voice calm. "Put it down, Silas. There’s nowhere to run."

Blackthorne—Silas—laughed, his eyes wild. "You think you’ve won? You have no idea what I’ve set in motion. Your bank, your family, your legacy—it’s all going to burn."
