The Coma Was a Test: My Greedy Stepfather Never Saw This Coming
Previously: My stepfather thought he could steal our family fortune while I lay 'comatose.' But I had a plan, and the moment he raised his hand to my son, I struck back.
The Iron Grip of Truth
Cornelius ripped off the oxygen mask with a single, fluid motion. His eyes snapped open, blazing with a cold fury that made the room feel ten degrees colder.
He rose from the bed like a specter of the railroad empire he'd built, his pinstripe suit barely wrinkled despite the weeks of feigned illness.

Craig's arm was still raised, frozen mid-strike. The smirk vanished, replaced by a mask of pure terror as Cornelius's hand closed around his wrist.
"Get away from that child," Cornelius said, his voice a deep, aristocratic baritone that echoed off the marble floors.
Craig's mouth opened and closed like a fish gasping for air. "You... you were..."
"Comatose?" Cornelius's lips curled into a cold smile. "No. I was testing you. And you failed spectacularly."
He held up the disconnected oxygen tube in one hand and a live security tablet in the other. On the screen, Craig's voice played back, clear as day: "Once the old man croaks, I'll ship the brat off to boarding school and drain the trust fund dry."
Craig's face turned ashen. "That's... that's not what it sounds like."
"It sounds exactly like what it is," Cornelius said, tightening his grip. "You've been stealing from this family for months. I have receipts, bank statements, and video of every single transaction."
Toby clung to Cornelius's side, his small hands gripping the old man's jacket. "Grandpa... you're okay?"
Cornelius's gaze softened for just a moment. "I'm okay, son. And you're safe now."
Craig tried to pull away, but Cornelius's grip was iron. "You can't do this! I'll sue! I'll..."
"You'll be in prison," Cornelius cut him off. "Where you belong."
He pressed a button on the tablet, and the penthouse doors burst open. Two uniformed police officers strode in, their boots echoing on the marble.
"Officers," Cornelius said, his voice calm and commanding, "put him in irons."
Craig screamed as the handcuffs snapped around his wrists. "You'll regret this, old man!"
Cornelius watched him being dragged away, his expression unreadable. But inside, a quiet satisfaction settled over him.
He looked down at Toby, who was smiling through tears. "Come on, son. Let's get you some ice for that wrist."
But as the police led Craig past them, Craig spat out one final word: "Check the safe."
Cornelius's blood ran cold.
