Previously: A fraudulent adoption, a forgotten lullaby, and a hidden birthmark. Sophie’s tiny finger pointed at the truth, and the Rosewood dynasty crumbled in one heart-stopping moment.

The DNA Test That Turned My World to Ash

The security officers dragged Dr. Mercer away, his protests echoing down the marble hallway. But I barely heard him. All I could see was Sophie — my daughter — clinging to Victoria like a lifeline.

“Take her to the private suite,” I ordered the remaining officer. “No one goes in or out without my permission.”

Victoria looked up at me, her eyes red-rimmed. “Julian, what do we do now?”

I pulled out my phone and dialed a number I hadn’t called in years — my family’s private DNA lab. “I need a test. Urgent. And I need it done quietly.”

As I spoke, I watched Sophie through the glass partition. She sat on the edge of a velvet couch, her crutch resting beside her, her small hands folded in her lap. She looked so fragile, so lost. But there was a fire in her eyes — a determination that reminded me of my own mother.

The lab tech confirmed they could have results within hours. I hung up and turned to Victoria. “We’re going to get the truth, no matter what it costs.”

But Victoria wasn’t looking at me. She was staring at the music box, still open on the desk, the ruby crest glinting in the light. “Julian… that crest. It’s not just the Rosewood family. It’s the Rothschild crest, too.”

I froze. “What?”

“Look closer,” she whispered. “The ruby is set in a pattern that matches the Rothschild ring your mother wore. The one your brother, Edward, inherited.”

Edward. My older brother. The one who had been passed over for CEO in favor of me. The one who had never forgiven our father for that decision. The one who had moved to Europe and cut all ties — or so I thought.

“You think Edward was behind this?” I asked, my voice low.

“I think,” Victoria said slowly, “that this goes deeper than one corrupt administrator. And if it does… we’re in more danger than we realize.”

I looked back at Sophie. She had fallen asleep on the couch, her tiny chest rising and falling with each breath. My heart ached with a love I thought I had lost forever. But along with that love came a cold, burning rage.

The Confession That Revealed a Family's Heartbreak

Three hours later, the DNA results came back. I stared at the screen, my hand shaking so hard I could barely hold the phone. The match was 99.99%. Sophie was my biological daughter.

I rushed to the suite, bursting through the door. Sophie was awake, sitting up on the couch. Victoria was beside her, stroking her hair. They both looked up as I entered, and I saw fear in Sophie’s eyes.

“It’s okay, sweetheart,” I said, kneeling in front of her. “The test says you’re my little girl. My real little girl.”

Tears spilled down Sophie’s cheeks. “But… why did you leave me at the orphanage?”

The question broke me. I had no answer. I had never known. “I didn’t, baby. Someone took you from us. But I’m going to find them, and I’m going to make them pay.”

Victoria squeezed my hand. “We need to talk to Dr. Mercer again. Now.”

We found him in a holding cell, his gold-rimmed glasses askew, his arrogance gone. He looked up at us with hollow eyes.

“I’ll tell you everything,” he said, his voice cracked. “But you have to protect me. He’ll kill me if he finds out I talked.”

“Who?” I demanded.

“Your brother,” Mercer whispered. “Edward. He paid me to take your daughter and swap her with a stillborn. He wanted your bloodline wiped out, so he could inherit everything.”

The room spun. I grabbed the bars of the cell. “Where is my brother now?”

“He’s on his way here,” Mercer said. “He’s coming to collect the ‘fake’ heir — and to make sure the ‘real’ one never surfaces again.”

I turned to Victoria, my mind racing. “We have to get Sophie out of the city. Now.”

But before I could move, my phone buzzed. A text from an unknown number: “You think you can hide her from me, little brother? I’m already here.”

I looked up. Through the glass doors at the end of the hallway, I saw a figure in a long black coat — Edward, standing with a cold smile, flanked by two men in suits.

“Victoria,” I said, my voice deadly calm. “Take Sophie to the safe room. Don’t open the door for anyone but me.”

She nodded, grabbing Sophie’s hand and running. I turned to face my brother, my fists clenched. The years of rivalry, the buried hatred — it all boiled to the surface as he walked toward me.

“Hello, Julian,” he said, his voice dripping with false warmth. “I hear you’ve been busy.”

“You took my daughter,” I growled.

Edward tilted his head. “I took back what was rightfully mine. Father should have left the company to me. Instead, he gave it to the ‘golden child.’ But don’t worry — I’m here to correct that mistake.”

He snapped his fingers, and his men stepped forward. I braced myself, ready to fight for my family. But then I heard a small voice from behind me.

“Daddy?”

I spun around. Sophie had slipped out of the safe room and was standing in the hallway, her crutch tapping on the marble floor. Her eyes were wide with fear, but she didn’t run.

“Get back!” I shouted.

But it was too late. Edward’s men were already moving toward her, and I knew — this was the moment that would decide everything.
