Previously: During a high-society gala, young Toby shocks the elite crowd by rejecting his wealthy mother, Victoria, claiming his quiet nanny, Clara, is his real mother. A devastating secret is about to unfold.

A Confrontation Behind Closed Doors

The heavy oak doors of the estate's private study clicked shut, finally blocking out the murmurs of the scandalized guests. Toby had been taken upstairs by a housekeeper, leaving Victoria and Clara alone in the tense silence. Victoria paced the room, her burgundy gown feeling like a heavy shroud. Her hands shook as she turned to face the woman she had trusted with her only child for the past three years.

"I want an explanation, Clara, and I want it now," Victoria demanded, her voice cracking with emotion. "What have you been telling my son?"

Clara stood near the fireplace, her shoulders slumped, her charcoal uniform suddenly looking incredibly fragile. Tears slipped down her pale cheeks. "I swear to you, Victoria, I never told him anything. I would never try to steal your son."

"Then why would he say that?" Victoria cried, stepping closer. "He screamed it in front of everyone! A child doesn't just make up a lie like that unless someone planted the seed in his head."

Clara took a deep, shuddering breath and pulled a small, worn envelope from her pocket. "Because he found this. And because... because it is the truth."

Victoria frowned, snatched the envelope, and pulled out a faded medical document. It was a surrogacy agreement from eight years ago, signed by Clara and Victoria's late husband, Richard.

"Richard approached me when I was desperate for money to save my ailing mother," Clara whispered. "I agreed to be his surrogate. But after the birth, Richard told me the baby didn't survive. He paid my medical bills and sent me away."

Victoria felt the room spin. "That is impossible. Richard and I adopted Toby through an agency. We have the papers!"

"Richard lied to both of us," Clara said softly. "He wanted a child of his own blood, but he knew you wanted a clean adoption. He faked the baby's death to keep me away, and then presented Toby to you as an adopted orphan. I only found out the truth when I saw the unique birthmark on Toby's shoulder three years ago. I took the nanny job just to be near him. I never meant to tell him, but he found the contract in my room yesterday."
