The Manager's Hidden Camera and a Father's Secret

The staff had scattered, but the whispers had already begun. Victoria led her father and Lucas to a private office on the second floor, closing the door behind them. The room was elegant, with a mahogany desk and a view of the city skyline, but the air was heavy with unspoken words.

Samuel sank into a chair, his hands trembling. Lucas sat on his lap, clutching a cookie from the tray Victoria had ordered. Victoria stood at the window, her back to them, trying to steady her own breathing.

"Dad, I need you to tell me everything," she said, turning around. "Why are you working as a kitchen porter? You could have retired years ago."

Samuel looked at his hands, the red burns still visible. "I didn't want your money, Vic. I wanted to work. It kept me sane after your mother passed. But I never told you because..." He paused, his voice cracking. "Because I was ashamed. I didn't want you to think less of me."

Victoria's eyes filled with tears. "Less of you? Dad, you raised me. You worked three jobs so I could go to school. I owe you everything."

Lucas looked up, confused. "Mommy? We don't have a mommy."

Samuel hugged him tightly. "You do, son. She's in heaven, watching over us."

But before Victoria could say more, the door burst open. A young waiter, pale and shaking, rushed in. "Ms. Vance, I'm sorry to interrupt, but... Gregory is causing a scene in the lobby. He's claiming he has evidence—something that could ruin you."

Victoria's eyes narrowed. "What kind of evidence?"

The waiter hesitated. "He's saying he has photos of you... at a charity auction, years ago, taking bribes. He's threatening to leak them to the press."

Victoria went still. She remembered that auction—she had been young, desperate to save the company, and a rival had slipped her an envelope. She had returned it, but the photo of her holding it could be misconstrued.

Samuel stood up, his voice firm. "He's lying. You would never do that."

But Victoria wasn't so sure. She had made mistakes, and Gregory had been there, always watching. "I need to handle this," she said, heading for the door.

Lucas ran after her. "Don't go! He's mean!"

Victoria knelt, kissing his forehead. "I have to protect our family, buddy. Stay with Grandpa."

She walked down the hall, her heels clicking against the marble, and found Gregory in the lobby, surrounded by a growing crowd of guests and staff. He was holding up his phone, a photo displayed on the screen.

"Look at her!" he shouted. "The great Victoria Vance, taking bribes!"

The crowd turned to stare. Victoria felt her face burn, but she kept her composure. "Gregory, that photo is out of context. You know it."

"Do I?" he sneered. "I've been saving this for years, waiting for the right moment. And now, you've given it to me."

"You're a liar," she said, stepping closer. "And a bully. You tormented my father for years because you knew he wouldn't fight back. But I will."

Gregory's smile faltered. "What are you going to do? Call the police? I have connections."

Victoria pulled out her phone. "No. I'm going to do something better." She tapped a few buttons, and a video began to play on the lobby's large screen. It showed Gregory, from a hidden camera, yelling at Samuel, throwing the soup, raising his hand to Lucas. The crowd gasped.

"This," Victoria said, "is what I'm going to do. I'm releasing this to every news outlet, along with a statement about your behavior. You'll be blacklisted from every hotel in the country."

Gregory's face went white. He dropped the phone, his hands shaking. "You—you can't do that."

"I already have," she said. "The video is live."

The crowd erupted in murmurs. Gregory looked around, desperate, but there was no escape. Security guards stepped forward, ready to escort him out.

As they dragged him away, Victoria felt a hand slip into hers. She looked down and saw Lucas, his eyes wide. "Did you save us?" he asked.

"I hope so," she said, pulling him close. But she knew the fight wasn't over. Gregory had more secrets, and she had a feeling the worst was yet to come.
