Previously: At a glamorous gala, Nadia screamed at Elena, calling her trash. But when Marcus grabbed Nadia's wrist and declared 'I choose her,' the night flipped upside down — Elena owned the entire company.

The Dance That Ended in a Truth

I should have left. I should have walked out of that ballroom and never looked back. But pride is a stubborn thing, and so I stayed, watching Marcus and Elena take the floor as the band struck up a slow waltz. Guests whispered, but no one dared approach me. I was a pariah in my own crown.

Elena looked over at me once, her eyes unreadable. Then she said something to Marcus, and he nodded. They danced over to me, and Elena extended her hand. 'Dance with us,' she said. It wasn't a question.

I stared at her hand — the same hand that had been on the floor minutes ago, the same hand that now held my fiancé's heart. 'You're mocking me.'

'No,' she said. 'I'm giving you a chance to save face. Take it or leave it.'

Something in her voice made me take her hand. The three of us moved in a strange triangle, the music swelling. I could feel the eyes of the room on us, but for once, I didn't care.

'Why are you doing this?' I whispered.

Elena leaned in. 'Because I know what it's like to be the girl everyone looks down on. And I know that the only way to break that cycle is to lift someone else up. Even if that someone just tried to tear me apart.'

Tears burned my eyes. I hated her for being kind. I hated her for being better than me.

Marcus spoke, his voice low. 'I'm sorry, Nadia. I should have ended things before the gala. I was a coward.'

I nodded, not trusting my voice. The music slowed, and the three of us stopped. The guests applauded, thinking it was a performance.

Elena squeezed my hand. 'There's a job for you, if you want it. Marketing director. You're good at that, and I need someone who knows the company inside out.'

I blinked. 'You're offering me a job? After what I did?'

'I'm offering you a chance,' she said. 'What you do with it is up to you.'

I looked at Marcus, then at Elena. Two people I had underestimated in the worst way. And I realized, in that moment, that my life had been a house of cards built on arrogance.

'I'll think about it,' I said, and I meant it.

As I walked out of the ballroom, I felt lighter. Not because I had won, but because I had lost. And sometimes, losing is the beginning of something real.

That night, I drove to my father's house and told him I knew everything. He cried. I cried. And for the first time in years, we talked — really talked — about the debts, the lies, the fear that had shaped our family.

In the weeks that followed, I took Elena's job offer. I worked harder than I ever had, not because I wanted to prove something, but because I wanted to earn the respect I had never given anyone else.

And at the next gala, I wore a simple black dress. No sequins. No crown. When Elena danced with Marcus, I clapped. And when she smiled at me across the room, I smiled back.

Because the truth was simple: I had been the trash all along. But trash can be recycled. And I was done being thrown away.
