Previously: A cruel executive humiliates an elderly janitor in front of his granddaughter. But when the old man reveals a gold founder's card, the entire casino bows. Who is he really?

The Whisper That Turned the Casino Ice Cold

The private elevator hummed as it carried Cesare, Lily, and Captain Thorne up to the executive penthouse. Lily sat quietly on a leather bench, her small hand clutching her grandfather's. She didn't understand everything that had just happened, but she knew one thing for sure — her grandfather wasn't just a janitor. He was something much bigger.

"Grandpa," she whispered, "are you really the owner?"

Cesare smiled down at her, the first genuine smile he'd allowed himself all day. "I am, sweetheart. But that's a secret we're going to keep for now, okay?"

Lily nodded seriously. "I can keep secrets."

"I know you can."

Thorne cleared his throat. "Founder, we need to talk about what happened in the foyer. Julian is already posting on social media — he's claiming you stole the card from a real executive. The damage to your reputation could be —"

"Let him talk," Cesare said. "The more he talks, the deeper he digs his own grave. I have the surveillance footage. I have witnesses. And I have the board on my side."

"But there's something else," Thorne said, his voice dropping. "Something you need to hear before you make any decisions."

Cesare's eyes narrowed. "What is it?"

Thorne glanced at Lily, then back at Cesare. "It's about your grandson-in-law, Marcus. He's been meeting with Julian in private. For months now."

Cesare's blood ran cold. Marcus — his granddaughter Emily's husband, the father of little Lily. The man who'd always been so charming, so eager to please. Could he really be involved in a plot against him?

"What kind of meetings?" Cesare asked, his voice tight.

"I don't know the details yet," Thorne admitted. "But Julian's phone records show calls to Marcus almost every day. And last week, Marcus visited a private bank in Monaco. A very private bank."

Cesare's mind raced. He'd spent six months undercover, and he'd seen the cracks in his empire. But he never imagined his own family might be part of them.

The elevator doors opened onto the penthouse — a vast space of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the glittering city below. Cesare walked to the window, his reflection staring back at him. He looked old. Tired. But not broken.

"Get me everything you have on Marcus," he said. "Every record, every meeting, every text. I want to know what he's planning."

"Yes, sir."

Thorne left, and Cesare turned to Lily. She was sitting on the edge of a leather sofa, her pink backpack clutched to her chest.

"Grandpa," she said softly, "is Daddy in trouble?"

Cesare's heart ached. He knelt in front of her and took her hands. "I don't know yet, Lily. But whatever happens, I promise I'll protect you. You and your mother."

"Even if Daddy did something bad?"

"Especially if Daddy did something bad."

Lily nodded, and Cesare pulled her into a hug. But even as he held her, his mind was already working. If Marcus was working with Julian, then this wasn't just about a spilled drink. It was about power. About money. About who would control the Rossi empire after Cesare was gone.

And he had a sinking feeling that the people behind this plot were willing to do whatever it took to get what they wanted.

His phone buzzed. A text from Thorne.

"Founder, you need to see this. Marcus has been transferring funds to an offshore account. The account is registered under a shell company. And the shell company's sole director is… Emily."

Cesare stared at the screen, his hand trembling. His own granddaughter. The girl he'd raised like a daughter after his son died. Was she part of this too?

He looked at Lily, who was watching him with worried eyes.

"Grandpa? What's wrong?"

Cesare forced a smile. "Nothing, sweetheart. Grandpa just has a lot to think about."

But inside, he was already planning his next move.

When the Family Turns, the Empire Shakes

The next morning, Cesare called a meeting in the executive boardroom. He'd shed the janitor's uniform for a tailored black suit, and he looked every inch the founder he was. But the anger in his chest was barely contained.

Marcus walked in first, all smiles and charm. "Cesare! I heard about yesterday. Unbelievable. Is Julian still in one piece?"

Cesare didn't smile back. "Sit down, Marcus."

Marcus's smile faltered. He took a seat across the table, his eyes darting to Emily, who sat beside him. Emily looked pale, her hands folded in her lap.

"Emily," Cesare said gently, "do you know why I called this meeting?"

She shook her head. "No, Grandpa."

Cesare slid a folder across the table. Inside were bank statements, phone records, and a photograph of Marcus meeting Julian in a dark alley.

Marcus's face went white. "Where did you get this?"

"It doesn't matter where I got it," Cesare said. "What matters is what it shows. You've been plotting against me with Julian for months. You've been moving money out of the casino's accounts. And you've been doing it using Emily's name."

Emily gasped. "What? No. I never —"

"She didn't know anything," Marcus interrupted, his voice desperate. "I forged her signature. I used her identity. Please, Cesare, I was in debt. I was desperate. Julian promised he'd help me settle it if I helped him take over the casino."

"You betrayed this family," Cesare said, his voice cold as steel. "You betrayed my granddaughter. And you used my great-granddaughter to get close to me."

"I love Lily," Marcus pleaded. "She's my daughter. I would never hurt her."

"You hurt her the moment you put her in danger."

Cesare turned to Emily. "Do you want to press charges?"

Emily was crying. She looked at Marcus, at the man she'd married, and her eyes were full of pain. "I don't know. I don't know what to do."

"Then I'll decide," Cesare said. He pressed a button on his phone. "Thorne, arrest Marcus Ashford for fraud and conspiracy."

Marcus lunged across the table. "You can't do this! I'm family!"

"No," Cesare said, standing. "You were family. Now you're just another criminal."

Thorne and two guards entered, grabbing Marcus and dragging him out of the room. His screams echoed down the hallway, but Cesare didn't flinch. He turned to Emily, who was sobbing into her hands.

"I'm sorry, Grandpa," she choked out. "I didn't know. I swear I didn't know."

Cesare knelt beside her and took her hands. "I know you didn't, sweetheart. And I'm sorry too. I'm sorry I wasn't there to protect you from him."

"What do I do now?" she whispered.

"You take care of Lily," he said. "And you help me rebuild this empire the right way. With family at the center. Not greed."

Emily nodded, wiping her tears. "I can do that."

Cesare pulled her into a hug, but his mind was already turning to the next problem. Julian might be stripped of his badge, and Marcus might be in custody, but there was still a shadow hanging over the casino. Someone had helped Marcus set up those shell companies. Someone with access to the highest levels of the company.

He reached for his phone to call Thorne.

But before he could, the boardroom door opened, and a woman walked in. She was tall, elegant, dressed in a crimson suit that screamed money. Her smile was sharp as a knife.

"Hello, Father," she said.

Cesare's blood ran cold.

It was his estranged daughter, Victoria.
