Previously: Diana slammed a fake blood test, claiming Chloe wasn't her father's daughter. But the 8-year-old held a sealed hospital cylinder that would shatter Diana's lies and expose a bribed lab clerk.

Diana's Desperate Gambit From Behind Bars

Three days after Diana's arrest, I thought the nightmare was over. But my father, Richard, received a letter from Diana's high-priced attorney, Marcus Cole, demanding a private meeting.

"She claims she has evidence that could still change everything," my father said, rubbing his temples. "She says she'll expose a secret about your mother."

The Judge Opened the Sealed Cylinder — Then Her Face Turned to Stone

My heart clenched. "What secret?"

"I don't know. But we have to hear her out."

We met her in the same conference room, but this time Diana sat in a visitor's chair, wearing an orange jumpsuit instead of velvet. Her hair was lank, her face free of makeup.

"I know you think you won," she said, her voice flat. "But I have something that'll make you wish you'd left me alone."

She slid a photograph across the table. It showed my mother, Elizabeth, standing beside a man I'd never seen before — a man with the same dark hair as me.

"That's your real father," Diana said, smirking. "Your mother had an affair. You're not Richard's daughter at all."

My father went still. "That's a lie."

"Is it?" Diana leaned back. "I found this in a safety deposit box your wife kept. Along with a letter she wrote to this man — a love letter, confessing everything."

My hands trembled. "My mother would never — "

"She did," Diana cut in. "And if you don't drop all charges against me, I'll make sure every tabloid in the city hears about it."

Marcus Cole nodded, his eyes cold. "My client is willing to keep this quiet in exchange for a full dismissal and a settlement of two million dollars."

"That's extortion," Judge Vance said, stepping into the room from where she'd been listening behind the glass wall.

Diana shrugged. "Call it whatever you want. But the truth will destroy your family."

I stared at the photograph, at the stranger's face. Could it be true? Was Richard not my father?

My father's hand closed over mine. "Chloe, look at me." He waited until I raised my eyes. "I don't care what that paper says. You're my daughter. That's all that matters."

But tears burned my eyes. "What if she's telling the truth?"

"She's not," Judge Vance said firmly. "Because I ordered a deeper analysis of that cylinder's contents. And there's one more document we haven't examined yet."

She reached into her robe and pulled out a sealed envelope, stamped with the same hospital logo as the cylinder.

Diana's bravado flickered. "What's that?"

"A sworn affidavit from the attending nurse who delivered Chloe," Judge Vance said. "She witnessed your mother's final moments — and the last thing Elizabeth did was make her swear to protect this."

I held my breath as she broke the seal and unfolded the paper.

"The nurse testifies that Elizabeth, on her deathbed, confessed the truth," Judge Vance read aloud. "That she had been blackmailed by a former business partner who threatened to expose an affair she never had. The man in that photograph is her brother, Peter, who died in a car accident when Chloe was a baby."

Diana's face drained. "No — "

"Peter was Chloe's uncle," Judge Vance finished. "And the love letter Diana found? It was a letter to her brother, begging him to forgive her for not attending his funeral."

My father let out a ragged breath. "Elizabeth never betrayed me."

"No," Judge Vance said. "She was protecting her family from a lie that Diana has now tried to resurrect."

I looked at Diana, whose schemes had crumbled into dust. "You're a monster."

"I'm a survivor," she spat.

"You're a criminal," Judge Vance corrected. "And now, with this affidavit, your extortion attempt is on record. Guards!"

The officers stepped forward, but Diana held up a hand. "Wait. I have one more thing to say."

She turned to me, her eyes glinting. "Your mother may have been innocent, but you're still a bastard, Chloe. Because Richard isn't your father — that affidavit proves nothing about the DNA."

My blood ran cold. She was right. The DNA profile from the cylinder had shown 99.99% paternity — but paternity of whom?

"The test was run against Richard's own DNA," Judge Vance said quietly, "as part of the original custody hearing. It matched."

Diana's mouth fell open.

"Richard is Chloe's biological father," Judge Vance said. "The nurse's affidavit confirms it. Your lies are over."

Diana screamed as the guards grabbed her, her last shred of hope vanishing.

But as she was dragged away, she yelled one final threat: "You'll never be happy, Chloe. I promise you that."

The door slammed, and the silence that followed was heavier than any words.
