The King Sentenced This Orphan To The Lions, Unknowing of His Legendary Past
Previously: When King Robert sentenced eighteen-year-old Leo to face a ferocious black lion in the colosseum, he expected a quick execution. But a single scar on Leo's arm changed everything.
The Trial of Fire and Truth
The High Cleric ordered the ceremonial braziers to be brought into the center of the colosseum. Massive iron bowls filled with white-hot coals and magical blue flames were lined up, creating a path of pure fire. If Leo was indeed the legendary savior, the ancient magic of the land would protect him. If he was a fraud, he would burn to ashes.
King Robert watched with a desperate, wicked hope in his eyes. He had personally seen to it that the magical fuel was laced with a deadly poison that would consume anyone who stepped near it, magic or not. He was certain Leo would not survive the first step.
Leo closed his eyes, placing a hand on the black lion's head. The beast let out a low rumble, as if transferring its own ancient strength into the young man. With a deep breath, Leo stepped onto the path of fire. The blue flames instantly erupted, swallowing him in a towering column of light and heat. The crowd screamed in terror, believing the young hero was lost.
But as the smoke cleared, a collective gasp echoed through the colosseum. Leo walked through the flames completely unharmed. Not only was he untouched, but the magical fire had burned away his dirty tan tunic, revealing a brilliant, glowing golden crest etched onto his chest—the true mark of the ancient royal lineage. The poison in the flames had reacted with his blood, turning the fire into a beautiful golden aura that illuminated the entire arena.
The crowd fell to their knees in reverence. Realizing his defeat, King Robert tried to flee, but his own guards blocked his path, arresting him on the spot. High Cleric Thomas bowed his head, acknowledging the true sovereign of the land. Leo, the boy who had been cast to the lions, was finally restored to his rightful place as the protector of the kingdom. True greatness cannot be hidden by lies, for the light of truth will always burn through the darkest betrayal.
