Previously: Maya's trembling lip and scarred brace broke hearts, but when Christian Vale spotted the birthmark on her collarbone, everything changed. The director's cruelty unraveled into a stunning revelation.

The Truth Behind the Mark

Three weeks passed before Marcus called. Christian was in his study, watching Maya play with a small wooden train on the rug, when his phone buzzed with a familiar ringtone. He answered, his heart pounding.

"I found it," Marcus said. "The shell company is registered to a man named Gregory Walsh. He's a rival of yours — used to work for your father."

Christian's blood turned cold. Gregory Walsh was a name from his childhood, a man his father had fired for embezzlement. He'd disappeared years ago, but now, the pieces were starting to click into place.

"He's been hiding in plain sight," Marcus said. "He owns a private island, and he's been funding the orphanage for years. Director Thorne was his pawn."

"Why?" Christian asked, his voice low. "Why go after my daughter?"

"Because you have what he wanted," Marcus said. "Your father's company. He thought he was entitled to it. And he's been waiting for the perfect moment to take it from you."

Christian's mind raced. "He's not just after money. He's after revenge."

"That's my guess," Marcus said. "And he knows about Maya. He's been watching her for years, through the director. He could have taken her at any time, but he wanted to use her as leverage."

Hannah walked in, holding a cup of tea, and saw the look on Christian's face. "What is it?"

"Gregory Walsh," Christian said, his voice tight. "He's the one who paid Eleanor to give up Maya. And he's the one who killed her."

Hannah set the tea down, her hands steady but her eyes wide. "What are we going to do?"

Christian looked at Maya, who was now humming a little tune as she played. "We're going to end this."

He called his security team and gave them orders. Within hours, they had a lead on Walsh's location. He was in a penthouse in the city, not far from their own home. Christian drove there himself, leaving Hannah and Maya under guard.

The penthouse was opulent, all marble and glass, and Gregory Walsh was waiting for him in a velvet armchair, a glass of whiskey in his hand. He was older now, graying at the temples, but his eyes were as sharp as ever.

"Christian," Walsh said, a smile playing on his lips. "I was wondering when you'd show up."

"You know why I'm here," Christian said, his voice cold.

"Of course," Walsh said. "You found your daughter. Congratulations. But you're too late."

"Too late for what?"

Walsh leaned forward, his eyes glinting. "I have a video. Eleanor recorded it before she died. In it, she confesses to selling Maya, and she implicates your father in a fraud that would ruin your family's name."

Christian's heart stopped. "My father?"

"Oh, yes," Walsh said. "Your dear old dad was more corrupt than you ever knew. He paid Eleanor to disappear, and I was supposed to make sure she never came back. But I kept the video as insurance."

"Why?" Christian demanded.

"Because I wanted to watch you squirm," Walsh said. "I wanted you to know that your success came at the cost of your own daughter's happiness."

Christian's fists clenched. "You're insane."

"Maybe," Walsh said, "but I'm also the only one who knows where that video is. And if you try to hurt me, it goes to every news outlet in the country."

Christian forced himself to stay calm. "What do you want?"

Walsh smiled. "I want your company. I want you to sign over the controlling shares, and I'll give you the video. Then you can live your life with your daughter, and I'll have what I deserve."

Christian stared at him, his mind racing. He had built his empire from nothing, but now, he was being asked to give it all up. But when he thought of Maya, of the years he'd lost, and the years he had left, the choice was clear.

"Fine," he said, his voice barely a whisper. "I'll sign."

Walsh's smile widened. "I knew you'd see reason."

But as Christian pulled out his pen, his phone buzzed. It was a text from Hannah: "I found something. A letter from Eleanor, hidden in Maya's dress. She wrote it before she died. It says Walsh is lying. There's no video. She never confessed. She was protecting Maya from him."

Christian read the text, and his heart soared. He looked up at Walsh, who was still smiling, and he said, "Actually, I changed my mind."

Walsh's face fell. "What?"

"There's no video," Christian said, standing. "My wife just found a letter from Eleanor. She never confessed to anything. You're bluffing."

Walsh's composure cracked. "You're lying."

"I'm not," Christian said. "And now, you're going to pay for what you did to Eleanor and to my daughter."

He signaled to his guards, who had been waiting outside, and they burst in, seizing Walsh. He screamed, but no one listened. Christian picked up the glass of whiskey Walsh had left on the table and walked out.

An hour later, he was home, holding Maya in his arms. Hannah was beside him, crying, and the three of them sat together on the floor, the way they had the night they first found each other.

"It's over," Christian said softly.

Maya looked up at him, her eyes bright. "Can we go to the park tomorrow?" she asked.

Christian laughed, tears streaming down his face. "Of course, sweetheart. We can do whatever you want."

Hannah kissed Maya's forehead and whispered, "You're safe now. You're home."

And as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in streaks of gold, Christian knew that this was the beginning of a new life. Not the one he had planned, but the one he had always hoped for.

Somewhere, in the quiet of the evening, Eleanor's voice seemed to echo in his mind: "Protect her." And he would. For the rest of his life.

The end.
