The Locked Bride

The grand cathedral of St. Jude was bathed in the warm, golden glow of the afternoon sun, yet a freezing chill hung in the air. Prince Lawrence walked down the aisle, his heart hammering against his ribs. Every eye in the kingdom was on him, but no one dared to speak. The silence was suffocating, broken only by the soft rustle of his ornate bronze and teal garments.

At the altar stood King Frederick, a towering figure of absolute authority draped in deep burgundy robes. Beside him stood his daughter, Princess Rosalind. But she wore no traditional bridal veil. Instead, her head was encased in a heavy, locked wooden barrel, reinforced with iron bands. It was a grotesque sight, a silent testament to some dark, unspeakable secret.

"My daughter is now your wife," King Frederick declared, his voice echoing coldly off the stone walls.

He placed Rosalind's trembling hand into Lawrence’s. The ceremony was a blur of whispered vows and fearful glances. When it was over, Lawrence was led to the bridal chamber where his new wife sat silently on the edge of the bed. The muffled sound of weeping came from within the oak barrel, breaking Lawrence's heart.

Determined to face whatever curse lay beneath the wood, Lawrence approached her. "Do not fear me," he whispered. He reached out and touched the cold metal latch on the front of the barrel. With a deep breath, he pulled it open and peered inside.

Lawrence staggered backward, his face turning pale as ashes. "Oh my God," he gasped, his voice trembling with absolute horror at the sight before him.
